There is nothing to compare with our God! As much as one tries to measure the Lord's greatness and excellence, it is impossible to have a complete perception of who He is. As much as we try to describe it, everything will always be much less than in fact God can, does and is!

There is nothing to compare with our God! As much as one tries to measure the Lord's greatness and excellence, it is impossible to have a complete perception of who He is. As much as we try to describe it, everything will always be much less than in fact God can, does and is!

No human construction, discovery or acts of kindness can be equated with God's love and perfection. Everything we do, however beautiful and admirable it may be, does not compare to God...

In the book of Isaiah, God himself asks His people, inclined to seek idols and images of sculptures:

"Who will you compare me to? Who resembles me? ", asks the Saint. Isaiah 40:25

Nobody. This is the right answer, because nothing compares to God's holiness, justice and power. The psalmist also states:

None of the gods is comparable to you, Lord, none of them can do what you do. Psalm 86: 8

There is no other like it, on earth or in the heavens! There is no other being, no other god that compares to the Lord. Even though there are attributes communicable to creatures, or cheap imitations of idols and false gods, He is the Great "I Am", the supreme Creator.

Comparisons in the Bible

But, why does the Bible make some comparisons or analogies to God? This happens as an expressive resource ( metaphors and allegories ) and didactic ( customary figures ) from human authors, to demonstrate or teach the reader some characteristics of God.

It is common, we also do this by saying that one person is "a sweet", because he is sweet and pleasant or says that another is a "machine", because it works a lot or is hardworking. This does not mean that the person is literally a sweetie or work equipment, but it alludes to the qualities of those people.

See some examples of comparison ( or metaphors ) related to God, in the Bible:

  • Consumer fire ( Deuteronomy 4:24 and Hebrews 12:29 )

  • Chicken that gathers its chicks ( Matthew 23:37 and Luke 13:34 )

  • Strong tower, refuge ( Psalms 9: 9, Psalms 46:11, Psalms 94:22, etc. )

  • Rock ( 2 Samuel 22: 3, Psalm 62: 6, Psalm 61: 3, etc. )

  • Shepherd ( Psalms 23: 1, John 10:11, 1 Peter 5: 4 )

  • Shield ( Psalms 84: 9, Proverbs 30: 5, 2 Samuel 22:31, Psalms 18:30 )

  • Sun ( Psalms 84:11, Isaiah 60: 19-20 )

In addition to these, there may be others, but this last comparison points us to an interesting association:

This psalm tells us that the Lord is sun, and indeed, He is the eternal Light, salvation, shield and protection.

Have you ever thought about how important the sun is for the existence of life on earth? Not only light, heat as well as all the other benefits for nature's organisms, the sun is essential. Through it we can see, mark cycles and seasons, orient ourselves in space, in addition to keeping our physical and mental health balanced. For these and many other factors, this star is fundamental to the continuity of life as we know it.

Similarly, God is central to his people, just as the sun is in the solar system. The Lord is the indispensable source of life for the entire universe. Despite this, poetic or pedagogical comparisons fail to equate God with anything in this world.

Limited Comparison

Even this interesting association with the sun is so restricted and diminished, if we consider the infinite greatness of the heavenly Father. God is far superior to the sun, for He did it! The Sun is just a point of reference for our limited mind to consider the Lord's greatness and power. For there is nothing visible to us, so great and powerful, that can be compared to God.

Distortion: Worship the creature instead of the Creator

Unfortunately, there are people who look for ( stars in astrology ) guidance for their lives. There are also cultures that worship the sun as a kind of divinity. But we know that this is just a star created by God. It is now known that there are suns much larger than ours in the universe. But it was God who formed all the stars and stars, and there is nothing and no one greater than Him! The Lord is incomparably greater than anything that exists...

God totally incomparable

Through the Holy Bible we know the qualities and His great deeds. So we managed to get a little glimpse of all His power, wisdom and grace. God is the creator of the sun, of the other stars, all galaxies and planets in the universe. This is our God! He is the:

Unmatched creator

But it was God who made the earth with his power, established the world with his wisdom and extended the heavens with his understanding. Jeremiah 10:12

Unparalleled power

I also pray that the eyes of your heart will be illuminated, so that you may know the hope to which he called you, the riches of his glorious heritage in the saints and the incomparable greatness of his power towards us, those we believe, according to the performance of his powerful force. Ephesians 1: 18-19

Eternal God

Incomparable love

Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens; your faithfulness to the clouds. Psalm 36: 5
"For God so loved the world that he gave his Only Begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16
So we know the love that God has for us and trust that love. God is love. Everyone who remains in love remains in God, and God in him. 1 John 4:16

Incomparable forgiver

Jesus manifested God's incomparable Grace

God raised us up with Christ and made us sit in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, to show, in the ages to come, the incomparable richness of his grace, demonstrated in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. Ephesians 2: 6,7

One God, worthy of glory

Although so great and excellent, the Lord cares about us and loves us with eternal love. He manifested himself through Jesus ( Hebrews 1: 3 ) and wants us to live His true love. Trust in the sovereign Lord and seek to know him more ( John 17: 3 ) in His Word. He is the incomparable God!
